Legend Volcanoes Backcountry Day by Day

Day 1 Arrival Day Buenos Aires – Caviahue

We will meet you and other guests at Ezeiza International brand new Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina capital city, and the most modern city in South America.
Our private transportation will take you to Jorge Newbery Airport, for a domestic flight to Neuquen, capital of Neuquen Province in Patagonia Region. Neuquen is the place with more National Parks, and resorts in the country.
Upon arrival, you will meet PatagoniaPowder guide, and we will take the road with ours private 4X4 trucks to Caviahue, crossing the most impressive desert like earth, valleys, really deep canyons, and more. Caviahue is a small mountain Village rounded by ancient trees, called Araucarias or Pehuenias, unique round the world, and region symbol, Caviahue lake, and mystical Copahue Volcano.
At arrival we will check in at our great hotel, with heated pool, sauna, jacuzzis and more. You'd better be prepare for tomorrows adventure...

Day 2 Copahue Volcano Caviahue
Caviahue is small resort, in the bottom part of the mystical Copahue volcano. Last eruption, eight years ago, was amazing, but don't worry, geologists are studding it every time, and it's safe... We will be riding the smoking volcano, with a great view of Caviahue lake and surroundings, by midday if weather conditions are fine, we will take a snowmobile with local PatagoniaPowder friends towards the Volcano Crater. The view is breathtaking... we are at 2970m-9000feet, the descent is incredible, untouched chutes, powder bowls, canyons and cornices, in the more than 7km-4,5miles length run, with a vertical drop of more than 1000m-3030feet... What else can we say? You just have to live it...
Day 3 Caviahue Caviahue
Copahue Village is know worldwide by the best Thermal Bath in America, draining from the volcano, during summer people from everywhere come to bath in this mystical waters. Today it has the streets getting hot with steam, but as the village is climbing the volcano it's no possible to reach it... by car..., so today we will be taking the snowmobile again, heading to Copahue, and getting a great freeriding all day long, descent to the village, and from the volcano slopes back to the resort.
After a great afternoon of backcountry, it is time for the heated pool o jacuzzi, and then for the international food of the restaurants.
Day 4 Batea Mahuida Volcano Pehuenia Village
After an early breakfast, we will head toward Pehuenia Village. A few meters before Chilean boarder, and if road conditions are right, we turn left and catch a small road, beside Litran river, water falls, and an epic landscape. That is why we use 4X4 vehicles...By noon we will be at Batea Mahuida Volcano base, now a very small resort managed by a Mapuche tribe, and you will have the opportunity to speak to them, and after riding, drink a hot cup of coffee, while they sip Yerba, in a small cottage at the base. Hiking, on snowmobile or by truck we will climb to the volcano crater, where there is a small lake inside. From the top you will admire the Alumine and Moquehue lakes...Time for freeriding, for sure, the slopes are untouched for weeks...Tonight will be spent in a scenic small hotel, attended by a family, besides a small river at the end of Moquehue river... if you were dreaming for a lost beautiful place in the Patagonia...relax, you are there...
Day 5 Batea Mahuida Termas de Chillan
After breakfast, we will attempt on the volcano climb if weather has been a factor, and after the last hand shakes with our Mapuches friends, a whole cultural experience, we will head towards our next destination. We take the road to the Chilean boarder, and trough Pino Hachado pass we get into Chile. The landscape is amazing, we will pass between two ancient volcanoes, Llaima Volcano and Lonquimay Volcano. This is also the place where the world famous rafting river, Bio-Bio, starts. Arriving to Chillan city, we will have the opportunity to check out Chile's most well known artisan market. Stocked with Mapuche's craft and woodwork, don't doubt this is the best place to pick up a souvenir and gifts for home. From Chillan, there is a short drive to Las Trancas, the smooth town besides the sharp slopes of Termas de Chillan, where we will stay for the next three days, in our great accommodations, just a step form the chairlift. Our hotel has also, heated pool, disco and SPA...
Day 6 - 7 Termas de Chillan Termas de Chillan
Termas de Chillan is a really huge resort, having lots of snow, last year it snowed more than 4m - 12feet. This is the place you will tell everybody about, great snow, best lines, and the least amount of skiers. It also has the longest piste in South America of 13km, in a 10.000 hectares of skiable terrain! Two full days in these incredible backcountry playground, and accessible terrain just from the chairlift. Incredible backcountry, including the third crater in our trip, Chillan ancient one, Los Nevados and Shangrila-La. The hiking here is just excellent, and you are, for sure, in the best Backcountry Andes adventure. There are also some thermal bath for a relax time at Chillan. The friendly village of Las Trancas, has several restaurants, and after some days of quiet nights we will check out pubs for party...
Day 8 Termas de Chillan Pucon
One more day to explore the best off-piste terrain of Termas de Chillan, have a new backcountry adventure, heliski to the nearby peaks... After a great day, saying good bye to Termas de Chillan is not so easy... but Pucon is waiting us... Pucon is known as Chile's adventure capital. Surrounded by two national parks, this village is at the black sand shore of Villarrica lake. Pucon also offers 4/5 class rafting at Trancura river, snowshoeing, horseback riding, volcanic caves, thermal springs, and of course...South America most active Volcano... Villarrica. Last big eruption was some years ago, and small eruptions are occurring while you are reading this. At night if you see something brighten orange in the sky, you have found him...
Day 9 - 10 Villarrica Pucon
You will never forget the experience of ridding the most active volcano in South America, and taking a look inside its crater. For those of us climbing, after a four hours hiking we will get to the top, at 2840m - 9316feet. From this point you have and epic view of Chile's lake district and the most magnificent volcano in the region, the one that rules... Lanin Volcano, in Argentina. The descent to Villarrica resort is more than 1600m, trough alpine slopes, natural half pipes, cornices and wind lips. If you don't feel like climbing, you can stay at Villarrica resort, with also, natural half pipes and more... or hit one of Pucon options, rafting, snowshoeing, or just a relaxing day in Licura thermal springs. Night life? Pucon has several different restaurants. After dinner, Mamas & Tapas pub is a must, or the casino, or the movie theater, or the disco (For you!), or..., or...
Day 11 Villarrica San Martin de los Andes
In case the weather have been a factor, we still have another day to attempt our climbing the volcano, or just enjoy the slopes and natural half pipe of Villarrica resort. Early in the afternoon we drive to the Argentine border trough the impressive Cordillera woods, and once again you will love our 4X4 truck. Just in the Argentine border we will be at Lanin Volcano base... Mapuches said that in the battle between all region volcanoes, he was the one who arise with the battle... Just his figure explains why... Finally we will arrive to our final destination, San Martin de los Andes, and Chapelco resort. San Martin is like Pucon twin brother, but with a bigger resort... lots of restaurants, casino, pubs... Our accommodations here are great, with heated inside/outside pool, sauna, and more...
Day 12 - 13 Chapelco San Martin de los Andes
We spend two days in Chapelco amazing resort. High speed six people gondola, four people chairlifts, natural half pipes, one of the better wood runs you can imagine and a breath taking view of Lanin National Park, makes it no doubt the most diverse and interesting resort. Off-piste is also excellent, with chairlift access to backcountry bowls, La Pala incredible run... In the afternoon you will sure find the local PatagoniaPowder friends at Pradera del Puma Pub, in the middle of the mountain, having a great time, with a mix of coffee, Quilmes (local beer), and pizza, watching the sunset on the Andes just one more time... Night life is endless. Locals hit first the pubs, then the casino and finally the disco, till morning! Last night we will have a celebration dinner together and one more night to party in South America...
Day 14 ...our last day Neuquen - Buenos Aires
After an early breakfast, we will drive to the Neuquen airport, a last round of hand shakes and hugs, before your flight from Neuquen to Buenos Aires. For those with evening departures a private transportation will take you to Ezeiza International Airport. But if you can stay a few days at Buenos Aires, is a place you will always remember.
